INSPIRE is an ESA ARTES-4 project. INSPIRE utilises the latest broadband access technologies to provide ubiquitous coverage over selected rural areas. By using a low-cost consumer orientated interface such as WiFi (IEEE802.11a/b/g) and by connecting the local Points-of-Presence by a standardised satellite DAMA network (DVB-RCS) the project will simulate as closely as possible the hypotheses and assumptions adopted in the business models enunciated in the "Digital Divide" solutions using next generation satellites providing dedicate capacity for broadband services.
- The INSPIRE system will be divided in the following segments.
- INSPIRE Ground Segment (Hub and Service Centre)
- INSPIRE User Segment (WiPoP and CPE)
- INSPIRE Space Segment
